| So once again we're gearing up for a premier PGA tour championship with lots of players in contention. Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald have been swapping the World No.1 spot and we'll look to them to be in the mix come Sunday afternoon. Lee Westwood's performances have also kept him up there as one to watch, and many of the other top Europeans are also expecting to give us something to cheer for. The Players at Sawgrass has always been a special tournament and this year promises to be no exception. Despite Masters disappointment, Tiger Woods says he's satisfied with the state of his game. And with Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler all enjoying recent victories, the US challenge will be strong. So will it be one of the favourites, or will we once again have a surprise victory? Scotland's Carly Booth could be one to watch this year after securing her first Ladies European Tour victory at the Scottish Open in Aberdeen. The 19-year-old beat a strong field coming through 1 shot ahead of England's Florentyna Parker and Australian Frances Bondad. The tour now moves on to the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open in Belek, Antalya. The 3 day extravaganza of GOLF LIVE at the London Club will give local amateur golfers their best chance to see new equipment in 2012. A host of golf's finest exponents will be on show with Colin Montgomerie, South African golfing legend Gary Player, Paul Casey, Oliver Fisher and Rhys Davies among the male talent, while winning Solheim Cup captain Alison Nicholas will be there along with Melissa Reid, Carly Booth and Henni Zuel. Golfers may have to find some new terms to describe the surface they putt on after a group of scientists in East Anglia succeeded in creating a new strain of drought-resistant grass, the colour of which is more blue than green. Outdoor trials are still in the early stages but it may be something we have to get used to if we continue to suffer such dry winters in the years ahead. Powakaddy has reported strong sales figures following the release of the Powakaddy Sport electric trolley in March. The powered cart specialist describes it as very easy to use, extremely reliable, robust and fantastic looking and say that it has received an "overwhelmingly positive reception". |
